Edfu and Kom Ombo from Aswan: one-way to Luxor or back to Aswan?

If your next stop is Luxor, book the Edfu and Kom Ombo trip that ends there; if you sleep in Aswan again, book the one that drives you back. Both visit the same two temples and both are private. The Edfu and Kom Ombo day tour with Luxor transfer is listed from €117.66 per person, and the Edfu and Kom Ombo temples tour by car from €106.07.

The two temples

Edfu is dedicated to Horus. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities says that construction began under Ptolemy III in 237 BC and finished under Ptolemy XII in 57 BC, and calls it one of the most striking and complete of ancient Egyptian temples. Kom Ombo is dedicated to two gods, the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Harwer, Horus the Elder, with a separate axis for each. The ministry dates the present building to the Graeco-Roman period.

Trip with the Luxor transfer

The page describes a private day trip with a professional Egyptologist guide. It goes to Edfu first, then Kom Ombo, and ends with a private transfer to your hotel in Luxor. Duration is given as 6 to 7 hours, and “Know before you go” says about 6 to 8 hours including travel. The same page states that the transfer is one-way only, and that the return to Aswan is not included.

Three details to check when you book. The “Includes” list mixes inclusions and extras, so confirm that entrance fees are covered. Hotel pickup from Gharb Soheil, the Island, Nagaa al-Mahatta or New Aswan is listed at US$10 per person extra, and from West Bank locations at US$5. The tour is run in English; a Spanish, German or French guide is an extra cost. The page also warns of extreme heat and of moderate walking with some steps and uneven surfaces, and recommends covered shoulders and knees.

Trip back to Aswan

This one is by car from a 7:00 AM pickup. The itinerary lists about two hours’ drive to Edfu, one hour at Edfu, one hour at Kom Ombo and half an hour on the last leg back. Plan around the nine hours in the headline and ask the operator for the exact timings. The page says lunch is a box lunch, and its includes list names entrance fees to all the mentioned sites, bottled water and a private guide. Pickup from Soheil Island, Hisa Island, Aswan airport or a Nubian hostel costs extra; ask the operator for the amount.

The page carries a wheelchair-accessible label but gives no detail on access, and the other page mentions steps and uneven surfaces, so ask the operator before relying on it.

How to choose

Take the Luxor-transfer trip if you are moving on anyway: it replaces a separate transfer, but the page lists the return to Aswan as not included, so arrange that yourself if you need it. Take the by-car trip if Aswan is your base, accepting the longer day. If you prefer to see both temples from the water, a Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor stops at them, and all private options are on the private tours page.

Both pages list free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start.
