Nubian village in Aswan: which tour should you book?
4 min read
For a first visit, the shared half-day tour is the simplest way into the Nubian village; pick the small-group cultural day if you want to meet a family and see more than the painted lanes. The shared half-day tour to the Nubian village is listed from €22.28 per person, with 182 reviews.
Be realistic about what this is. The Nubian village is a living community that receives visitors, and tour pages describe it as brightly painted houses, shops and Nile views. One tour page says the village was formed in the early 1900s when Nubian families relocated around the time of the Aswan Reservoir’s construction. UNESCO’s listing for the Nubian Monuments covers the temples of the region, not this village, so do not expect a monument visit.

The shared half-day tour
You are picked up at your hotel, join a small group and cross the Nile by motorboat. The page lists hotel transfers, the motorboat and taxes; gratuities are optional. Pickup from the Island, Gharb Soheil, Nagaa al-Mahatta or New Aswan is listed at US$10 per person extra. It runs three hours.
With a camel ride
The camel ride version lasts two hours, includes a private transfer, a motor ride and the camel tour, and is built around a ride through the village streets. The page’s includes list is mixed, so confirm on the booking page whether tips are covered.
The longer village tours
The four-hour motorboat tour crosses to the West Bank and walks through mud-brick lanes, with sweet tea and the chance of music. Its group size is listed as up to 30 people, the highest limit any of these pages gives.
The West Aswan and eco village experience is limited to 10 participants and combines a felucca crossing of 30 to 40 minutes, a camel ride, a guided visit of about two hours and an optional 30-minute lunch. Lunch costs extra, so ask its price before you book. The page lists the tour as not suitable for pregnant women, people with back problems or wheelchair users, and as suitable for children aged 4 and above; hotel pickup is from Aswan city hotels only.
Combining it with other sights
A six-hour tour joins the High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk, Philae and the Nubian village in one day. Philae-only visits are covered in our Philae guide. All village tours are on the Nubian village tours page.
